the simpler the easier (and less expensive) it is for someone to replicate it..

Definitely can't stress the expense part enough

Speaking of which, I just got a message by pigeon alerting me to an impending delivery:

Even I have been playing around of late with my arms/shield design. Maybe not precisely within the custom of traditional heraldry but meaningful to me.

You mean 'began'...until I met you fine fellows, I never gave thought to banners, gonfalons or heraldry...or periodicity.  Heraldry on shields, surcoats, patches- and of course 'more armor more more more' - Sir James and Sir Edward are teh worst in that regard.  They can talk you into buying more armor like its nothing.  Sir Wolf provides the example.  lol

That's very nice Sir William!

Lord Dane, I like your heraldry as well, and I am a stout believer of the KISS method.

Corvus, i like your design too, is that a Native American Petroglyph on the shield?  I like the colors too ;)

I'm working on my heraldry as we speak for my group, and about the only thing I have set is:
my main device is a badger
the colors are sable, argent, and gules (black, white, and red) ... I'm debating on a Ermines (fur, white on black) background... I just don't know
but the "grumpy badger" has got to stay lol  ;D

I really like it Lord Dane.  The classic black and yellow looks great with those crosses and sword, very clean
