Nice! Maybe I need to get some, so that I can do minor repairs/adjustments when the time comes.

Happy Birthday, Sir Ulrich! :)

Forgot to ask:  Does anyone know how many rings are in a typical coif?  I've been kicking around making one, and the prefab rings would speed things up a bit!

EDITED to ask question.

How many rings? Quite a lot. :) I know that's not a good answer. I might have to see if I can estimate what's in mine. I estimated that my entire aluminum set (hauberk + coif) is on the order of about 25,000 links, if I remember correctly.

Thought experiment: If the coif is about 25% the weight of the hauberk, the ratio would be 4:1, so 1/5 of the total... which would be about 5,000 links. That number sounds a little high. But I'm just guessing on the ratio at the moment, and in my case the coif has a particularly large mantle. I may have to take a close look at it and see if I can make a better estimate.

Thanks guys.
I am thinking of just getting a ready made coif and modify it to fit me and add a chin and neck guard to it. That helmet is also quite tempting for that price.

My guess would be 4k-5k rings also, depending on the size of the head, the size of the mantle, and if you make the part that they would tie around their lower face. A basic coif with small mantle is probably 3500-4000 rings, at 9mm diameter?

So glad to see them carrying them. I'm almost at the end of my patience messing with my butted mail shirt; seems like every time I tweak something, try it on for fitment, then take it off, 10 rings come off from random spots just by handling it. :(

Sir James, I totally understand where you're coming from...it is for that very reason that I switched to a riveted hauberk a couple of years ago.  I experienced ring loss primarily under the arms and in the elbows of my previous mail shirt.

Boy, you said it. I hate losing rings like that. Every faire season I end up with a few on the floor-boards of my car.
