Yeah, I think knighthood is what we as a culture really need nowadays.

And Robert, as you will be getting a steady income years before me, I'm sure you will have plenty of time to turn the tables on me.  ;)

Hail and Well Met, Robert.

Sir Edward, I agree, the electronic era is a bit of a mixed bag - easy to get distracted, yet far easier to research and connect with like-minded individuals, and a very broad market for the armor makers, which I think has led a lot to the enhanced kits that we're able to assemble. About 15 years ago when I tried my hand at armoring, I had 6 or 7 books with modern-day illustrations and a VHS tape from Valentine Armories that showed a little bit of working with a forge and other tools I don't have access to. And no one local with any interest in any of it. I've learned more in the last 3 years than I did the first 20.

Sir James, I note that your profile states that you are from West Virginia.
I also am from the Panhandle area, is as Sir Wolf. We need to gather to lay siege to that bloody Berkeley Springs castle that has been laughing at me for the past few years.... ;D

Pick a day and we can all descend upon the castle.  A 3 hour trip is not bad on a weekend. And I've been meaning to visit for the last 2 years.

I was just out there a few months ago (http://www.james-anderson-iii.com/events/pages/bsc12182010), but was unsuccessful in the capture attempt. Next time, armor and siege weaponry will be involved, and I hope for a different outcome. :D

Hey let me know as well! I’m only a couple hours away myself and I maybe able to join you bold knights in this venture! Besides I might be able to convince my Fae wife to join us and we could then employ a new tactic I’ve been developing that I call….Air Support!  :D

Indeed, Air Support will make the tactics much easier. :D

Berkeley Springs castle isn't open to the public, as it's a private residence, this past Dec was the first time he made part of it publicly open, aside from the annual High Tea fundraiser for the local musuem. However, Dupont Castle is near there, and the owners seem very gracious with visitors (dupontcastle.com) - I've been meaning to take a trip out there since earlier this yet, but many mundane things have taken my time and energy and I've not yet made the trip. Soon, I hope!

Yeah, I was fuming when that curmudgeon closed it down! He bloody lives in Florida! Why should he care!?!?!?!

Anyway.....I might have connections to Dupont castle. I am acquainted with an engineer that knows the guy personally.....* Scheming...plotting....scheming...plotting....*

The current owner of the castle used to live in Florida. He lives there year-round now as his private residence, and I bet it would get tiresome having to have a tour staff in your house (paid for by yourself) and also not being able to wander to the kitchen in your underwear for something to drink without going past visitors. I understand where he's coming from. :)

I've spoke with Mr Dupont a few times. He and his wife are more than accommodating to visitors, and now that the weather is better, I plan to get out there before May. If we want to make a group trip, I'd be happy to arrange it. I had a thread discussing doing so ~6 months ago. ;)

Ooh, I didn't know he lives there full-time now. Must have changed hands since I last checked.
Makes a lot more sense now....

I've made that same mistake. Castles change hands so frequently it really is a challenge to keep track of who's in charge.  ;)

I've heard it was worse 600 years ago on the french marches.  :D

haha! Or during the hundred years war!
Gotta wonder how many noble family reunions were completely ruined when the manor it's being hosted in was laid to siege, surrendered to the enemy, or were hit by a random chevauchee......
