Faire Groups
« on: 2009-09-28, 23:35:29 »
This past Sat. I was pinned as a member of Clan M'Crack.  Those of you from MdRF most likely know of this Faire social group, they are attempting to branch out and form a new chapter at PaRF and knowing the Laird of the Pa chapter, I accepted her request that I join.  This got me to wondering what faire clans, guilds and other groups people here on the boards might be members of.  I'm also a member of PaRenFaire.net (freinds of the Pa Ren Faire) and of Maryland Freinds of the Faire, although I have not posted or even checked that board in a very long time.  Anyway, I thought this might be interesting to see what other groups are represented here.

At MDRF we have a lot of members of the International Wenches Guild (link) and the Rogues Guild (link). I have a Rogues pin, but I don't really think of myself as a member. Just kinda got it on a whim. :)

I also have a RenMerc's Pin (link), which I identify with a bit more, and I'll wear the pin from time to time. This one is based around being responsible and honorable, refraining from drunken brawls, and demonstrating that armed rennies can be an asset rather than a danger.

That's about my level of exposure to faire related guilds, households, and clubs.

Rosemary and I have a few friends that are part of the M'Crack clan. TJ and his wife are really nice and he is especially gregarious,
but we have no real desire to join any particular social group anytime soon.  :-\

Do not belong to any, and do not wish to belong to any. My brothers in steel have been my friends and companions for the last decade. We go where we wish, putting miles under booted feet. Just as it should be.....

The problem with the social groups is that they tend to be plagued by drama. That's one thing that's nice about the Mercs though, is that it's really loose and disorganized, so it's more like "I'm wearing this pin because I'm safe with steel"

But in general I haven't wanted to get tangled with various groups for one reason or another. I agree, it's nice to go where we wish, and share a pint with fellow metal men. :)

Yeah, I know the various groups have often been plagued by drama.  I was asked to join the Rogues Guild years ago, but declined because then the PaRF chapter was nothing but drama.  I know the Cheiftess of the PaRF chapter of the M'Cracks and don't think that is likely with this group.  I really resisted joining any group for most of the 15 or so years I've been doing Faire, so we'll see how it goes.  I dislike being too tied down myself, so I really hope it doesn't turn into that sort of thing.
