Couple of medieval buildings in my town
« on: 2015-08-20, 23:50:14 »
Hi guys
I thought I`d show you a couple of medieval buildings in my town of Naestved, Denmark. Naestved is an old town, it was founded in 1135, so in 20 years, we have 900 years anniversary...

Well, the two buildings I first and foremost want to show you, are:

Boderne

Boderne is the oldest... I guess you call it terasse house? You know, a row of seperate "apartments", in one long building.... Well, the oldest of that kind of house, in all of Europe. It was build (the oldest part of it) in 1400, and the "newest" part was build in 1482. Today it is a part of Naestved Museum...

HelligÄndshuset

The name HelligÄndshuset, can translate until: The house of The Holy Spirit....
HelligÄndshuset is older than Boderne, first mention of it is from 1398, so it was of course build before that.
A house of the holy spirit belonged at that time, to a monastery. The one in Naestved, is the only house of the holy spirit, that survived until today.
It was used for good purposes. For a long time it was a poorhouse, that housed the absolutely poorest of people.... It has also been used as a hospital, and during the different plague epidemics, it was overfilled with people, sick from the plague.
An exciting history, allthough quite dramatic....
Today HelligÄndshuset also is a part of Naestved Museum.

Oh, and if you - like me - are interested in the paranormal, I can tell you that both these buildings, are seeing their share of paranormal activity. I have experienced it in both of them...

Beautiful!  I really need to get back to Europe.  I went once when I was too young to really appreciate what I was seeing.

The oldest bridge in my town was just torn down as it's construction (dating to 1905) was not good for the floods & earthquakes we get. During demolition they found the foundation for the oldest bridge in the area, dating to 1885, which has delayed the new bridge for a bit.

And all of that tells you just how very young my city is no?

Leave the dead alone, James. Don't let me catch you with a Ouija board somewhere in Denmark neither. :)

Thanks for sharing...my wife and I are planning a trip to the Continent within the next few years.  Wanted to make the Agincourt reenactment festival but alas, it was not to be.
