Has anyone been down to the NC RenFaire? It was my first time making it out...went in 14th century soft kit and had a blast! We have a pretty awesome set up down here...Virginia Order members should come on down next year!
Speaking of which for LARP and daily use I was thinking of getting some Sodhopper Moccasins and was wondering if anyone in the order had ever bought Catskills or Sodhoppers before...they are basically from the same lineage of craftsmen and pattern. I was thinking of going with some basic muted colors like Brown and Black so I can pull it off at work as well as for LARP.
Are they worth the $350-$500? What really made it interesting was my wife uses orthodic inserts and they would custom build the moccasins to work with her insert so she can have a day to day shoes that is super comfortable and fits her insert and feet right! To me that is worth lots of money. But since I know a lot of the Order members have probably had more interaction with Catskills boots I thought it would be interesting to get some feedback on them.
Thanks!
There used to be two faires in NC, but since one of them fell apart, I'm assuming you mean CRF, over by Charlotte? It's been several years since I've been down there, but I always liked that faire.
Catskills are definitely expensive. In fact, last I looked, they started in the $900 range and went up from there. Do they have some more affordable options now?
From what I understand, they're worth it if you have special needs with your feet. Otherwise, it's usually considered more cost effective to go with something like Son of Sandlar, which also is in the range of $350-$600, which is why I'm a little confused.
