Brothers - I'm leaving tomorrow afternoon to fly overseas this next week (visiting three of the embassies in central European countries I'm now responsible for) so alas cannot join you in harness this weekend - but will be there in spirit.  Have a "stinger" and a toast to the Order for me! :)

Safe travels brother! I will sorely miss seeing you today! Alas perhaps we'll get a chance to socialize a little later this year and early next year? :)

Central Europe? Sounds dodgy. Last time I was in central Europe I was detained at a train station by dudes with assault rifles. Luckily they gave my passport back when they let me go. I ended up spending the night at an apartment that the taxi driver claimed belonged to his sister, yet we had to climb the outer wall of the building up to the third floor and enter through the patio. Bathing was accomplished via a largish bucket with a sponge. Actually I think that's Eastern Europe I'm remembering. Those were... interesting... times.

Best watch yourself.

Sounds like quite an adventure you had there!  My only foreign interaction with uncooperative authorities that quickly give you that "We're not in Kansas anymore" feeling was in Central America.

Safe travels Martyn!  I have a feeling that you’re an experienced and “traveling smart”.

Similar to other stories above, I’ve stared down the wrong end of a rifle twice, once in a remote area of the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico near Belize) and once in the Czech Republic (border crossing into Germany).  While these were real government soldiers and not some ruffians, it was still unnerving to say the least!

These days our travels are restricted to mainstream airlines and condos, not backpacks and a thumb.   ;)
"Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can say Ni at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land, nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design shrubberies are under considerable economic stress in this period in history." - Roger the Shrubber

Thanks for all the warm wishes.

Made it back safely and in fact had a great (if too short) visit in Prague, Bucharest and Sofia.

While I was in Prague also picked up a few more 14th century Bohemia replica items for our LH camp kit from Wulfund :)

Doh! Congrats; I wish I knew you had access to Wulflund stuff. I've been eyeballing their Cinquedea dagger for a while now. :)

Happy to share my experiences and contact with them (maybe under another topic?) if folks would find that useful.

Has anyone been down to the NC RenFaire? It was my first time making it out...went in 14th century soft kit and had a blast! We have a pretty awesome set up down here...Virginia Order members should come on down next year!

Speaking of which for LARP and daily use I was thinking of getting some Sodhopper Moccasins and was wondering if anyone in the order had ever bought Catskills or Sodhoppers before...they are basically from the same lineage of craftsmen and pattern. I was thinking of going with some basic muted colors like Brown and Black so I can pull it off at work as well as for LARP.

Are they worth the $350-$500? What really made it interesting was my wife uses orthodic inserts and they would custom build the moccasins to work with her insert so she can have a day to day shoes that is super comfortable and fits her insert and feet right! To me that is worth lots of money. But since I know a lot of the Order members have probably had more interaction with Catskills boots I thought it would be interesting to get some feedback on them.

Thanks!
