Greetings all, My name is Mustafah Ibn Melon. I am new to the forums, but not necessarily the Medieval side of things. For now though, I have the email I sent to Sir Edward, which should provide all the details necessary.
Now, Where to start.... Oh, righto!
I am an SCA combatant, and have been participating in SCA for a rough grand total of a year. Yeah, not the most experienced, but I have a lot to learn. I was with the East kingdom (Stonemarche) for a while, then I went into the military, and just got back into it with the good people of Staggesgate of Meridies. I was formerly known as Vladistaus Rancor, but being in a new group and all I decided to change my name and style. I felt most comfortable with a scimitar and (after being told that I couldn't use a broadsword technique worth a damn) felt the need to use a Middle Eastern Name, preferably Persian. The people of Staggesgate came to know me as Mustafah the Melon Man (because of my fondness for fruit on the battlefield), and I fixed it to Mustafah Ibn Melon (Mustafah, son of the Melon). Now, being a respectable Persian I had to get a kit together, and seeing as my next place of residence will be Korea, it is mandatory I acquire some items before joining in the funfest with the South Koreans. So, what would I use? Leather? Not with the way people hit these days, oh gods no. Plastic Barrel? Cheap, yes, but I have had my fill of walking around looking (and smelling) like a former trashcan that decided to sprout legs and grab a rattan. Steel? And bake in the hot sun? Funny. Then it hit me. Using garb that I had obtained from local Afghan residents in Afghanistan during a deployment there, it would be sufficient enough to keep me warm or cool, depending on the temperatures. And what to protect myself with? a Visby coat of plates of course! so, I set off looking. PolarBear? nope. They only sell the kit, but no cloth. Icefalcon? Not worth paying $800 USD, I love his work and all, but no dice on that price. Going through site after site until finally I read the following line: Visby coat of plates for sale- ModernChivalry.org. Well, by gum, it was time to take a look. So I looked. And Looked. And looked some more. My god- never have I seen a treasure-trove of information like this since the days of the Honorblade forum. I figured it was high time to get back into the forum life.
Hope you guys enjoyed, I look forward to learning more in future.
