I finally had a chance to watch this. It was entertaining.
It is sort of an odd film, but I think you have to expect that when it's a small-budget independent film, and also when considering the subject matter. It does turn into a soft-horror, but even then, it still stays somewhat tongue-in-cheek, so I think it was pretty much what I expected.
And heck, it had both Peter Dinklage and Summer Glau in it, so that's a win.
