MD Renaissance Faire moving to a new venue?

My lady wife just sent this to me.  Think they'll allow weapons at the new venue?  Probably not.   ::)

Md. Renaissance Festival considers new site
Wednesday - 2/5/2014, 2:40pm  ET

CROWNSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- After decades in the same Anne Arundel County location, Maryland Renaissance Festival organizers say they are looking at moving to a new venue.

The Capital reports (http://bit.ly/1nT85CF) that a Facebook post by Jules Smith, the president of the festival held in Crownsville, raises the possibility that the county could lose the $8 million event, which attracts 300,000 visitors annually and provides hundreds of seasonal jobs.

Smith, who has been seeking a new site for years, says the festival has been offered a "large property directly on a major divided highway with larger fields and woods." He doesn't say where it is.

Smith says organizers love the property they currently lease, but they want to study the new site that offers the possibility of better access and more space.

Well they’ve been grumbling about traffic and space for a few years now so it could very well happen in a couple of years, although I do not think for a second they would allow weapons. No gain in it for them at all to add a liability risk.  :-\

Sir James, why not try starting one for WV?  Or do they have a RF already?

Yeah, they've been contemplating moving for a couple of years now. I suspect (but don't know for sure at all) that part of it is that the landlord at the current location is pushing for a higher cut of the faire's income, and they're pushing back by saying "we'll move".

Well, they bring in quite a bit of funds to the county it seems- as well as visitors from all over.  The landlord, whoever he is, had better have a similar solution setup or he'll just be out of pocket and that's all.  I'm still hoping to win the lottery so I can buy the land the old VARF sat on.  :)

None I'm aware of, certainly none local. I'm a couple million short... care to invest? All investors in my faire get to bring weapons; and only investors! :D

That'd be nuts!  That's like...far from me!  lol  Altho, all kidding aside, there's a lot of wide open spaces up in Frederick and points north and east.

Sir Brian ;) - you been thinking about that lone tower out there too, huh?  My lady wife has already given her consent should we ever win- we're buying it and turning it into a compound.  Use w/e existing buildings we can, scrap the rest and build up.  The whole nine yards- including an Order Meadhall set back in the woods...you'd have to take one of the horses to get to it.  Not the black one.  He bites.

Sir James...I was going to say "but its so far" - how funny would that sound to a man who has driven cross country to attend an event?  So, I'll just say- good luck, my Brother.  :)

I wish they were moving it to Missouri. Hey, it would still be the "M"DRF!
