Ren faire
« on: 2013-08-19, 20:24:07 »
Hey guys, Im just wondering what ren faires you usually go to. I usually go to the P.A Renfaire, and I have yet to go to the maryland one which Ive heard only good news about. and it seems many members go there. I hope myself to go there next year and possibly the p.a. one again this year.

I usually get up to PARF only once every few years, and this year was probably the first time that I've done it for two years consecutively.

MDRF on the other hand, is my home faire. The season starts up this weekend, and will run for 9 weeks. I'm there an awful lot. Usually over 50% of the days, sometimes more like 75%.

MDRF is my home faire as well. I attended VARF 3 years ago, and have performed with some other Order of the Marshal members on here at VARF the last 2 years.

The faire I consider my home faire is completely out of range for everyone here, as it's the one I grew up with in Tampa, FL.  But I mention it only because of it's sweet acronym, the Bay Area Renaissance Festival.... or BARF!  :)

We have one around here in South Lake Tahoe about an hour south of me called the Valhalla Ren Faire, and we had one for many years called the Reno Celtic Faire but none would I call home. THe closest thing I would call a home event is May Cynaguan Coronet.

I go to NY and NJ ones usually, I met Matthew Leiby at both the NJ one and Mercer County one which was rather nice. I wish I could meet up with more members of this order as well, I just cant drive myself anywhere so I am somewhat limited...

I try to hit PARF at least once a year, sometimes twice. The one closest to where I live, and the one I've been going to the longest is the Pittsburgh RenFest. It's not nearly as nice as PARF, but it's closer to us. Cast in Bronze also plays there, and he's one of my all-time favorite Fair acts.

I went to the Great Lakes Medieval Faire last year, but didn't get to make it this year. Haven't been to MDRF yet, but it's on the to-do list.

My home faires are New England based. :) I can bee seen at Connecticut Ren-Faire (Guilford, CT - Spring or Danielson, CT - Fall) and King Richard's Faire (Carver, MA - Fall). I also travel to all other area faires including NYRF (Tuxedo Park, NY) and PARF on occasion.

MDRF is my home fair as well (I live 20 minutes away from the site). I also go to VARF nearly every weekend as a patron or to perform with some of my Order brethren. I go to PARF at least twice a season and over the past several years have attended GLMF, NYRF-Sterling, NYRF-Tuxedo, GARF, KYRF and always make it at least once a season to the CRF. :)

It's possible we crossed paths, but I don't think I've taken my gothic plate up there though. Usually if I'm "away from home" I try to be less uncomfortable. Heh. :)

I haven't been down south as far as GARF or BARF yet. I've also not been to some of the ones more west/SW/NW of us, such as the one in TN, or GLMF, etc. I've been to the NY faires, but nothing more north of that.

I've been to TXRF (though not the others in TX, since they have something like 4 of them, I think), and the one in CO was pretty nice.

I like the Pittsburgh faire. It's smaller, but has a nice atmosphere to it.

VARF is probably the smallest that I hit with regularity. It's tiny, but a nice faire that is growing and finally coming into its own. It had a rough start, a decade ago, but it's succeeding now.

MD is my home faire, although I've been to VARF the last couple of years on Order business.  I hope to see some of the other ones frequented by some of our members next year.  I always say that, though when the time comes, something always comes up.
