Well met, Sir Knights
« on: 2013-08-14, 15:34:49 »
Greetings! I found out about this site after meeting Sirs Edward and Brian at the PA RenFaire this past weekend and thought I'd check it out. I've always been interested in history and the Middle Ages in particular (what young lad doesn't like knights?), but I've really gotten into it within the last year or so. I'm currently working on a mid-13th to early-14th century kit. My aim is a reasonable amount of historical accuracy, so the kit is constantly changing as I learn more about the period, and as my creative skills improve.

You can call me Doug since...well...that's my name. ;) My persona is more likely to use my middle name, Stephen, or some variation thereof, so you can call me that, too. Or, you can even call me "Hey, you!" if you'd like.

I may be a little shy at first, but I look forward to talking with some like-minded folks here on the forum. :)

Hi there, welcome to the forum! It was great getting to meet you in person at PARF.

For other folks here, it should be noted that Lord Doug created most of his own gear. He had details that included chausses & braies, as well as a ventail and integrated mittens with leather palms on his hauberk. It was very cool to see.

Huzzah and welcome Douglas! Glad you found your way to the forum and hope you consider it a second home! Again I am most impressed with your kit and the attention to detail you have invested into it. I knew in our short discourse at PARF you would find our forum to be a great source of information and hopefully camaraderie!  :)

Welcome to Modern Chivalry, I rather like your kit, 13th century kits are hard to find at medieval faires. You seem to be doing the exact same era I am doing as well with my kit. I am located in NJ, so I will be going to the PA ren faire possibly later on.

Thanks all for the welcome! :)

I'll be heading back to PARF sometime in September. The seventh and eighth, I believe. That one has to be my favorite of the little circuit of RenFaires that I try to hit each year.

Have you ever made it down to the MD renfaire? It's one of the largest in the region, and is the one I go to the most.

It is easy to find. Just follow the aggravating trek of traffic through the Beltway until you reach a lone cow pasture that leads to a gate of hypocritical renny henchmen that disarm every knight of their swords for entry. And you found it.
