"It wasn't the reward that mattered or the recognition you might harvest. It was your depth of commitment, your quality of service, the product of your devotion -- these were the things that counted in a life. When you gave purely, the honor came in the giving, and that was honor enough."

By the time they are teenagers, all you can hope for is that they'll remember what you've taught them when it will serve them best and pray that they make the right choices when the time comes.  By then, they're conscious of consequences that can happen and choose for themselves what they wish to do; it is not the parents' fault if they err, so worry not.  You can't do anything about it anyway.  lol

I've taken the liberty to bold the text in red of the three key words in Sir William's post that will helps get parents through those teen years!  ;)

Oh Lord help us...

Thorsteinn is going to have a minion! :D

congrats! nothing better in this world than having the unconditional love of a lil one.
so any cool norse names in the works?

lil fatherly advise that i am learning:

never go to bed angry

Talk to your children not at them

counting to 10 does work in situations

if children are making you frustrated, look at yourself first and see if you are the issue and they just don't understand.
teach your children the way they shall go and they will not depart from it. even as young ones, give them "chores" let them help and it won't be an issue when there older.

Hugs and kisses will make all your troubles melt away.

I couldn't have said it any better than Sir Wolf.  My adopted daughter, she's the light of my life now, and the little half-pint's talking now! :D

Really, talking to them, and with them, no matter their age I think changes everything when it comes to the little ones growing up.  Little Kira only screams when playing "scary" and has hardly a temper on her.  She has TONS of attitude and plenty of sass hamming it up for the camera, but she's a very polite little 30 month old.

congrats brother, this is what it's all about.

Thank you, Gareyth.  Having had a hand in raising my two girls, now 22 and 19, I can honestly say it has been the most rewarding experience I've had to-date; wasn't easy but definitely worthwhile.  Since they're so old, I find that letting them make their own decisions only comes with practice- you have to let the little fledglings test their wings, else they shall never fly.  But as a parent, you want to protect and shield them from all things that might do them harm...I also ended up really appreciating everything my parents did for me...but even moreso for the things they didn't do.  Those things I had to learn the hard way...and I did; I have zero regrets though.

Congrats.....and remember they grow fast cherish very moment with them!!!!

Lrd Murchadh...too true, too true.  Also, take lots of video so you have something to blackmail them with when it becomes necessary!  ;)

It's possible that it might happen. But look at it this way-- will you love your child any less for their flaws?

You probably heard this before ...

You've made it this far, and graduated from college, too... I'd not worry so much over that. :)

That, and Thorsteinn, bud
it's different now than when we were young.  I remember never being able to be diagnosed.  Now, it's almost the exact opposite.  My little one has it, guaranteed. But you know what, we know it, and can work with it.  She's going to be home-schooled and what she enjoys is what she enjoys.  The rest, if it's required she'll learn certain things must be done.  She won't get lost in the crowd, or become a class clown because of sheer boredom like what happened to me.

it's why we moved to where we are.  There's an excellent 4H program, and at 30 months, she's already showing an absolute love for horses.  That and right now, she's glued to Star Wars Ep II and desperately wanting me to hurry up and finish her lightsaber  :o lol  ;D there's worse things than being a nerd bud.

and worst case, we're all here for you regardless.
