I just finished this book- if you hadn't posted this thread I would've, Sir Wolf.  What a great read!  Not at any moment was I bored or just flipping through pages, this book kept me engaged from start to finish.  It is probably the best medieval fiction book I've read since the Archer Series by Bernard Cornwell.  In fact, it has a similar flavor to it, although in TRK there's magic and it is in-depth as well as interesting; the way it is handled and visualized is unlike anything I can recall reading.  In some ways, the magic might even be just a tad more interesting than the medieval bits- that's just my POV, ymmv.  In any case, I recommend this to all my brethren, and the forumites as well- just a real good read.

I actually finished it yesterday afternoon and started re-reading it; I'm sure I missed something being so excited to get to the next chapter, then the one after that, etc.

The author is a fellow student of the sword, and all things medieval.  Here's a pic of him in harness (he's also a fan of Albion swords but who isn't, aside from Tom Kinder, right?).

For some odd reason, it would not display for me so I linked it instead.

Even better.  I do think I recognize the author from the picture.

Yup; and I just got a note from him- the second book, Fell Sword, is already out to the editor, should be available sometime in November.  If you have not yet read this book- do so!

This is one of those books that, if they got it right, would explode onto the movie screens and probably win some awards.

That would be amazing and worth a ticket fee to watch.  Potential for epic revival of an interest in Knights, Chivalry and Swords, imminent if this would happen.

And something of envious note- I'm getting a signed copy, apparently the last one he had to give!  I have the Kindle version, but you can't sign those.  lol

I'm currently about a 1/3 of the way thru my second reading of it...in my zeal to get to the end I missed quite a bit of detail.  The depth of detail is such that you almost forget that the entire book takes place in or between two locales within the country.

Found a copy of the book at a local library, read the first chapter and I will admit it was engrossing and I didn't want to put the book down.  I would give this a good recommendation for a good fantasy read.

I am half way through. It's a nice fantasy romp.
