Eye dominance and fighting.

I just realized that fighting right handed while being left eye dominant I may have been having some issues all along as a shieldman and even with a two handed weapon. I know that not knowing I was left eye dominant made shooting a pistol hard for years till I found out the truth.

Understandable issue w/ shooting & line of sight to target involving eye dominance. However, seeing you would or should have both eye open in sword play, I fail to see the relevance. My eyes are both focused on my opponent not just one.

I was going to say something similar. It can present real problems in shooting since you can only get line of sight on the gun's sights with one eye at a time. But when fighting, both eyes are seeing the same thing with only a minor perspective difference, so I don't think it matters. Unless you tend to wear an eye-patch over your dominant eye or something.

Even then, he'd still be able to see and land shots on his opponent.  Thorsteinn, have you noticed anything untoward in your fighting skills to date?

I just discovered that I actually have one eye that's rather nearsighted (left, the dominant one) and the other is farsighted. If that would affect swordsmanship, I think I would have noticed, since my favorite moves involve control of distance.

That would result in "eye defect" not dominance, Sir Nathan. I opt you go for LASIK to correct that over-sight (yes, pun intended). As it may benefit you in the long-run and greatly aid you better in the coming slaughter against my hammer.

I know, but I think it's a valid point for the OP idea that having a different dominant eye and hand (which I have, and my defect would only increase any effect) causes problems with fighting.
I think you and your hammer will find that I still can control a measure very well.....

You young knights tend to lack that self-control in any measure. But I suppose, it can be tempered with the right amount of discipline & humiliation.  At least we will not need to work on your boasting skills of embellishment. LOL They are progressing nicely.

Well in that case, I'll be certain to wear my gauntlets Sir Thumb-Splitter. And hopefully avoid becoming Sir Butter-Fingers myself.

Lord Dane, yes,gauntlets are a must when bouting me. Without them, any "Sir Butter-Fingers" will be entitled quickly as "Sir Butter-Nubs"

Of course Sir Nathan is of such standard. But if none test his resolve, then there would be no fun in it!!! On a side note: Hmmmmm.. Butter-Nubs??  I see peanut butter brittle in caramel and a chocolate covered shell. Sir Nathan might have the new candy idea of the century.
