Grave of Richard III found?
« on: 2012-12-29, 14:10:20 »
This is an interesting story which is also an affirmation to the validity of some historical records, no matter how obscure.  ;)

Saw a little while ago where they were doing that. Looking forward to what they find out in 2013. *Lots* of interesting discoveries lately of 500+ year old people.

This is the 'my kingdom for a horse' guy?  He was a right bastard wasn't he?  He walked all over his people while he reigned...seems fitting that the subsequent generations of English should walk all over him (or park over him)!

Yep he was the last of the Plantagenet’s!  ;)

Definitely, but in light of Sir William's assessment (which history confirms) it would have perhaps been more appropriate if he was found at the bottom of a latrine!  ;)

Richard III is a one of those guys that you either love him, or you either hate him.  From my reading I think that he was a very good leader, and numerous accounts of him in city annals lamented his death.  Those admissions were missed by the Henry VII propagandists.  Remember, to the victor goes the spoils, and it seems that H VII did everything he could to justify his actions.  What really tainted his reign was the disappearance and supposed murdering of his nephews.

Are you speaking of Richard III having killed his nephews?

Big news is here, it is him.  Todd makes a very pertinent point- to the victor go the spoils and a lot of what was written about Richard III was written by Tudor loyalists; it was their job to demonize him.  Still...wonder what happened to his nephews?

It wasn't like they had never had precedent...it is widely believed that King John slew his nephew Arthur to get past him in the line of succession, as Arthur had been designated Heir to the Throne by Richard.

I think we were all in the flurry of Book of Faces posts that we forgot to post here. There's been a lot of info, and some amusing pictures, posted.

I do believe that was intentional...and those movies are hilarious!  I love Shrek; I consider Farquaad to be one of the best villians of all time!
