Animated Bayeux Tapestry
« on: 2012-04-29, 14:26:34 »
Saw this on the Mike Loades' facebook page, and thought it was pretty cool.  From the description on YouTube:
"The Animated Bayeux Tapestry was created as a student project while at Goldsmiths College. Just as the historic original embroidary does, the animation depicts the lead up to to the Norman Invasion of Britain in 1066. Starts about halfway through the original work at the appearence of Halley's Comet and concludes at the Battle of Hastings. Marc Sylvan redid the soundtrack to include orignal music and sound effects."

Very nicely done indeed.  You'll be glad to learn this is being used as supplementary material for the Romanesque period in my wife's Art History & Appreciation course at NoVA Community College.

And then of course there's this:

If you're interested in high quality tapestries with historical medieval imagery on them this is where I got my Codex Manesse tapestries.  They also offer several other pieces of contemporary medieval art in tapestry form.

Sir Ian's link is fantastic. If you're going with a smaller budget, I have reprints of both on my wall, 11x17 I believe (encounter on the stairs) and 24x32 (the accolade). I picked them up off Amazon for a reasonable price a few years back.

Hello Sir James,

I have been looking at different ones all over the net. I was wondering  if the ones on Amazon look right. Not sure but the pictures they have up make the tapestries look like a photo. The ones you have do they look like a photo or does it look like a tapestry?

Thanks
