Good day to all,
My name is Michael Ekelmann, known in the SCA and on the Armour Archive as Fearghus Macildubh. My interest in knighthood and chivalry goes back to when I found a battered copy of Lanier’s “The Boys King Arthur” in the school library. It was really set when I watched Charleton Heston’s El Cid when I was 11 or so. From that day on, I’ve read books about knights whenever and wherever I could find them. At first the knights I read about were fictional or legendary, but then when I joined the SCA back in 1995 I began to read about and study historic examples like De Charney, Lull and the Marshall. Of course, I'm interested in the weapons, armour, horses and all the other sundry trappings of knighthood as well. Visually, to me, a knight means a surcoat, helm, mail and plates and a horse with a caparison. Blame the Pre-Raphaelites and their imitators I guess ;-)
SCA wise my armour hasn't always lived up to this standard, but my plans are to make it that way now.
