Or how about we just all get together and have a grand melee like the days of old?  Rebated edges on weapons but other than that, real steel.  I have a few more years of that sort of activity before I'll need to make way for the younger generations.

Maybe we should think about doing our own event like this. Currently there is a small movement to get teams in North America for the Battle of the Nations for instance but there is nothing to say we cannot just have our own event with our own rules.

James, that is exactly what I'm talking about.  You're part of a living history group, you and Wolf- do you think there'd be enough interest to field a good number of fighters to make it interesting?

Depends on what the rules and standards are. It is possible to drum up interest; remember even the SCA started out a few people in someones backyard :D.

That's the spirit, Sir Brian- its all about fun.  Sure, there will be injuries, but what sport doesn't have that happen?  They even get hurt playing GOLF, for the love of the Marshal!

I wouldn't mind helping make our own reenactment society for medieval battles. Sure would beat the club battles of the SCA or the boffer weapon battles with my friends >_> Though it would certainly be more... dangerous...

An excuse to hit people with weapons? Sounds fun. :)

Sounds like we're all in thus far...I say we move forward- lets do this!  Doesn't Wolf have a tract of land we could use as a battleground somewhere out in the boonies (WVa lol)?  I seem to recall him mentioning it as an aside...maybe when we were talking about the old VARF and its grounds.  Hell, I'd be down for trying to hold it there...its more or less been abandoned, right?

Either locations can work and I will remind everyone that MASHS free play Sundays in Annapolis is available if anyone wants to work the rust out of their blade techniques leading up to any event we may eventually schedule.  :)

You mean, I can come by and maybe get some practice in with you players?

Sure! Just make sure you bring your safety equipment. - i.e. Adequate gauntlets, a 3-weapon rated fencing mask and perhaps a chest protector and arm pads with elbow protection. If you don't have any of that then if you're not squeamish we can always take turns and share my safety equipment.  ;)

We typically use aluminum wasters but some of us have steel and are willing to loan out blades.

Well as Sir Edward knows and can attest, I definitely have the "taking a few hits" portion down pat!  ;)

I like the cut of your jib Sir Brian (or is that a little too pirate-ish lol)

I don’t think so! Let us not forget the battle of Sluys! Definitely a knightly battle at sea that certainly put those later ‘Golden Age’ pirate battles to shame!  ;)
