FS: GDFB Sugarloaf helm [sold]
« on: 2011-06-03, 14:37:49 »
If anyone is interested, I'd be willing to sell my GDFB sugarloaf. I was thinking $60. I paid $65 + shipping to KOA. It's still new, and hasn't been used for anything except those photos I did as a test fitting with my 14th C kit.

I like it, it's just a little too small for my long nose. I believe it fit Wolf pretty well. I'll bring it with me on Sunday so you guys can look at it.

I've decided to try GDFB's "pot helm" which is like a visored sugarloaf. It's heavy, but comes with padding and so on. I have it on the way to me now, so now it's time to let go of the Sugarloaf.

Hey, I'll take it!  Definitely want that helm...if it fits.  My nose is rather stubby so maybe it'll fit me?  That pot helm you mentioned, didn't Sir Brian have his up for sale last year?  Think its the same one.  Either way, I'll take this off your hands if you like.

I do believe it is the same.  Is this it?

For some odd reason, I can't link the image directly.  As for the one you're selling, is that unpadded?

Yup, that's the one I have on order. Of course, as always, this is a bit of an experiment. I might get it and then hate it. And I totally spaced on the fact that Sir Brian's old one might be the same thing.

Yep, it's unpadded, but it has a leather suspension and chin-strap, so it's instantly wearable. It's also pretty light.

I ended up canceling my order for the helm (I ordered some other things that they'll still send me though). I've always wanted a good sugarloaf, but I'm also having a hard time fitting it in with my kits. I have a wonderful great helm already, and I really need to pick a good bascinet or something for the 14th C kit. The sugarloaf isn't fitting in cleanly.  :-\

I'm kind of bummed you cancelled the order, because I was thinking about that helmet and would have wanted to see yours up close. :) As I told you last night in class, I've wanted to do a 14th c.  transitional harness for some time, and seeing yours has spurred me on even more, particularly because my 15th century one is almost semi-complete. (I say "semi" because even when it's done, we all know that a kit is never *really* done. ;) )

It's always possible I'll go for it again at some point, but for now I wanted to take more time to think on what I really want, rather than shotgunning orders out. :)

Well I have this helm from Armstreet. I still have it as I didn't really pursue the sale of it. I can
Try and remove my jury-rigged method of keeping the visor up and bring it with me Sunday as well.
I think I was asking $100 last year so I’ll let it go for $75. Mine has a liner I made for it.

Say what? Since when do we in this hobby actually think about our purchases before we buy, buy, BUY! ;)

Actually, that's exactly why I haven't started on my 14th century harness yet. I'm still planning it out. Maybe I should start a thread on it. :)

Haha! Yeah, that's my usual mode of operation. Order a whole bunch of stuff, hate half of it, and use the other half. :)

But yes, by all means, start up a thread so we can fuel your spending too! :)

That looks pretty close there, Sir Edward...might be some stylistic differences but they do look almost the same.  Sir Brian, what did you not like about it?  I may've asked that already but can't remember.
