So I watched the new Robin Hood

Impressed by a lot of the armor they used, I did notice they took a lot of the stuff from Kingdom of Heaven, especially the kettle helms. It's good to see films now use maille armor instead of plate. Only complaint was some of the stuff looked 1400s era like the kings helmet and the visored sallets and whatnot.

Yeah they did mix the periods a bit with the armor. I think I saw some bascinets in there too. Not quite right for 1199. :)

A lot of the time, the armor and weapons used by characters in the backgrounds will be rentals from prop companies. This can also indicate that the prop companies are getting better.

What I don't understand is why Robin Hood wears a fancy lamellar cuirass... From what I understand that is more of a Mongol/Asian thing.

I think the thought was he got it while on Crusade. Byzantines had it, Khazar, Kievian Rus, as well as the Varangian's.

Anyway.. have you seen the version of Robin Hood with Uma Thurman in it?

Heh, I forgot she was in that one. That was the same year that the Kevin Costner version came out, except this one was a TV-movie. I know I saw it, I just don't remember what they did differently. I'll queue it up too. :)

Uma was in a Robin Hood?  Might have to suss that one out...the Costner one is probably my favorite rendition altho I must say- the more I see this one, the more I like it.

The Kevin Costner Robin Hood was the first medieval film I ever saw and probably the first medieval thing I ever saw in my lifetime. That film is always gonna be one of my faves of all time.
I did see the other 1991 Robin Hood film, long while back. Barely remember it cept I do remember it paints the Normans as bad guys  >:(
