"It wasn't the reward that mattered or the recognition you might harvest. It was your depth of commitment, your quality of service, the product of your devotion -- these were the things that counted in a life. When you gave purely, the honor came in the giving, and that was honor enough."

He's making a couple of Arn scabbards that are available for pre-order. :)

Nope, typically one year for a standard/custom commission, but these are looking at being delivered in the next month or so if I read it right. He did my most recent one in about a month, since he has his apprentices help make a few "campaign line" scabbards along side the custom work.

http://www.myarmoury.com/talk/viewtopic.13712.html I like scabbards that look a bit worn and used. For some reason when stuff looks a bit worn down and not brand new it appeals to me more. Maybe it's cause my persona is a poorer knight that uses outdated or old fashioned stuff.

I like the aged look too. Most of the scabbard makers will make them look distressed and aged if you request it. Personally, I order them all looking shiny and new, because I figure they'll look worn and aged soon enough on their own. :)

Apparently he made two of the Arn scabbards, and they're finished and available now.

DAMN those scabbards go for a lot. For that price I could buy myself an Albion sword. But I love the way they look, crusader items appeal to me for some reason.

Yep, scabbards aren't cheap. Historically this was true as well. The scabbard is essentially the "other half" of the sword.

So does that mean some poorer men-at-arms made do with no scabbard? Or did they just make do with one that was poorer quality?

no if you have a sword you have a scabbard. if you are a man at arms all it is you are a an unknighted figure. you would have had money. minor nobles etc might have even been men at arms for higher ranking nobles etc.
