hafting the pole axe
« on: 2010-10-27, 00:02:38 »

newest projects. I've got 2 pole axes that i have yet hafted. the first will be a tall one and the later a short one. i have to sand the haft, make a rondel, linseed oil the half and attach it together. got to do the same for the shorter one as well.

Poleaxe...not only does it sound cool but it is eminently bad ass.  I'm coveting your workspace, Sir Wolf...

And it's a very knightly weapon as well. As plate armor become more complete, they tended to favor the poleaxe over swords. I really need to get mine hafted too. I have a haft and a bench grinder. I should get to work on it.

Y'know, I remember seeing these sold w/out hafts on some site but can't remember where.  I'm thinking I need to acquire one, too.  I have a running list of weapons, armor and assorted accoutrements that I want...wish I'd hit the lottery already, so I can add the castle and surrounding lands to said list.  lol

Yep, they're nice and cheap here:

These aren't the highest quality, but the price is excellent for what you get. I still want one from A&A eventually though (http://armor.com/pole010.html).

I'd have to give it more thought...Bodiam Castle is magnificent...but I want somewhat more.  And it wouldn't be huge, you know...gotta think practically w/regard to HVAC.  I mean, sure, a lot of it will be truly medieval but the family's inner sanctum will have state of the art conveniences!

I want a halberd exactly like this one http://www.melbar.de/Blankwaffen/Stabwaffen/Stabwaffen/A2XH1076.jpg

Very deadly and intimidating looking. Shame they stopped selling it  >:(

Still, a great look harness man!  I'd like that long one for ground fighting and the shorter one for horseback.  Nice stuff, man.
