Need to get rid of some mail
« on: 2010-07-13, 12:25:49 »

Anyone have some suggestions on what I could do?

I still have that ridiculously heavy 14 gauge galvanized steel set of mail, where the hauberk weighs about 40 lbs and the coif another 10 or so. I want to get rid of it, but not by junking it if I can help it. Not too long ago, I'd have considered ebaying it, because I had cheap shipping available through work... but now I've changed jobs. I can't imagine the shipping cost to wrap this thing up in a small box that weighs 55 lbs or so.

Any ideas?

Isn't it customary to pass the cost of shipping onto the buyer? But if you think that additional cost would be non-conducive to prospective buyers you could always ask a vendor you might know at an upcoming faire to display it with their merchandise and sell it for you for a piece of the action, perhaps a percentage of what it would cost for shipping?  :-\

Is this riveted or butted maille?  I'm looking for some riveted steel maille and I may know someone looking for some butted steel maille, I'll have to call him and aske if he is still in the market.  What are you thinking price wise, so I can let him know.  I'm pretty sure he'd pay whatever shipping costs are too, so long as it's not too expensive.  If it fits, you might be able to use USPS flat rate shipping, just to put in a plug for my employer ;)

It's butted galvanized steel, all 14g. Price, I'm not sure, but I'll let it go cheap at this point, since the shipping will probably be insane for a 55 lb box. Set includes the hauberk and coif.

I'll call my freind and see what he thinks.  I'm looking for riveted mail, so I'd probably pass.
