Cool! I like the hauberks. Don't much care for the way the coif sits though. Just a personal preference.

You know, this aventail could probably be changed into a fauld without too much work.

Haha, hence the modification. :)

Yeah it's possible. Int he photo it looks like it's doing a fairly even expansion rather than triangles or trapezoids seamed together. Maybe if the inside edge were opened with a few slits, and then create belt loops between the slits or something, it might work. I wonder about the outer circumference though and whether the whole thing would sit right.

Found a very low priced riveted Aluminum haubergeon for under $300.00!
(for those of you with the slender builds...a little over that for beefier guys like me)  :-[

That's actually a surprisingly good price for riveted aluminum mail. The CAS/H version retails for considerably more:

http://casiberia.com/product_details.asp?id=AB2476

As does the MRL version:

Man, if this stuff were available like this back in 2000, I'd probably never have made my own, and just gotten this.

One thing to take into consideration though, is that by-the-sword doesn't have a matching riveted aluminum coif. MRL and CAS have theirs though:

http://casiberia.com/product_details.asp?id=AB2564

http://www.museumreplicas.com/museumreplicas/detail.aspx?ID=330

But with riveted mail, you're kinda stuck with how they design the fit of it. MRL doesn't have a good picture of their coif, and I haven't seen it up close either, but I have their mild-steel coif from back around 1999 or 2000. I hate the way it sits. It bunches up around the front of the neck and hangs from the chin, rather than getting the nice contouring that my aluminum coif has.

The CAS/H coif linked above does a little of this too, but not nearly as badly, as far as the picture seems to show.

The MRL photo for the mild steel doesn't show what I'm talking about very well, since they had the guy stand in such a way that it flattened out:

http://www.museumreplicas.com/museumreplicas/detail.aspx?ID=334

I suspect that the problem is that they started the triangular expansions just below the chin, rather than the base of the neck.

Ice Falcon apparently just restocked a lot of their mail. I'm hoping this means my standard will be in soon...

Yeah, that's when I'd ordered my standard.

I definately will want to hear your feedback on the voiders. I almost bought those as well, but decided I'd wait and save for a little while. I'm also concerned that there won't be enough room underneath my cuirass for them, since it fits so well without them.

Well my new mail arrives tomorrow! I was right at the recommended limit with the large size so
thought it prudent to go up to the next size. Judging from the weight of the shipping info it will
be 21 pounds lighter than my steel. - Feels better already!  ;)

I'll have to take a look at yours at some point. The price is very appealing. By the looks of it, I could probably sneak by with a medium. Of course, it would be bitter irony for me to order one right when I'm finally finishing the one I've been making for about 8 years. :)

You'll definitely appreciate the weight! I can wear my aluminum stuff all day without any discomfort at all. My shoulders and back will ache from carrying the helm instead! :)

Isn't that always the way though?  ;)

I am still undecided if I should get it anodized in a brass finish or not. I haven’t found many
reliable references to brass mail being used in the time period of my harness, so it just might
only be an affliction of vanity on my part.  :-\

Still the brass appearance of my old mail was bit fetching in my eyes.  :D
