Maille mittens
« on: 2014-12-04, 03:06:04 »

So I got contacted by some indian vendor on facebook. Normally I'm weary of ordering from outside the USA, but I saw that someone else bought something off of them and gave a good review so I decided to take the risk. I ordered these on saturday on the weekend and they got here just today. In all honesty they're pretty good quality. Cost 97 dollars plus shipping. They're a little wide for me but my thumb fits fine and with my mittens on my gambeson they fit fine. I do want to somehow attach them to my hauberk one day but lack the materials and experience to do so. These are 16 gauge round riveted round ring blackened maille mittens. Though I do have trouble putting the second one on myself due to the cuffs being quite snug. I gotta get used to being a crab with only pincers rather than a hand. But I am satisfied with them despite them being on the heavier side of maille.

Very cool. Mittens are one of those things that a lot of people tend to overlook.

Glad you got the mittens and not the maille gauntlets; good looking pair too.

Certainly more historical for the Crusader era genre. They look good!! I find mitts too hard to grip certain weapons with and retain so I will shy away from them for practical combat in maille armor.

secret.

they are too big and the thumb is in the wrong place.

i have yet to find someone that makes one that is right unless it is custom made. i have a pair on my hauberk and hate them. but i am to lazy to fix said issue. maybe one day. lol

Yeah these ones the thumbs actually fine, it's the GDFB ones that have the thumb flat like oven mitts. These ones by default have the thumb folded into the palm. So I have no problem gripping swords, I just have to remove an inch of material from the side. Hopefully that will be doable as I plan to attach these to my hauberk after modification with a little help from someone.
Heres some better pics:

Not sure how I should modify them but I do think they're a bit big which annoys me a bit considering everyones bigger than me and every bit of clothing I buy is too big for me.. Seems custom is the way to go or modifying whats off the rack.

I think I may have to get those. Considering my last mail gloves were 75, butted(although splinted). that price for Riveted sounds pretty good for me.

They are big for your hands, but you have the skills to tailor the mittens and the price is unbelievable!  8)
