This is truly regrettable and yet could have been avoided.  :(

It also reaffirms my philosophy that I adopted many years ago concerning physical assault which is the consideration that ANY physical attack is equivalent to attempted murder and justification to defend myself to the utmost of my ability to preserve my life. It is also a grave reminder to check your own anger and discipline oneself not to ‘fly off the handle’.

Totally agree. When you're under attack, you have to assume that the person means you harm in a way that may result in permanent injury or death. So of course from the other side, you shouldn't attack someone unless you're willing to be counter-attacked accordingly.

This is such a tragic and avoidable case. The kid will probably get convicted of assault at the least, and possibly manslaughter, but the question is whether he will be tried as an adult or as a minor.

Bad news indeed, I agree with Sir Brian in this matter. This is all the more reason to exercise our right to self-defense.

True indeed.

I completely agree with Sir Brian.  And I truly hope he is tried as a minor.  Regardless of the circumstances, we all make mistakes sometimes gruesome mistakes when we're younger.  Some people learn by others falling on their faces.  I'm one of the ones who always had to fall myself.

This seems to be an issue with a lot of parents living vicariously through their kids, and pushing them so hard for success in everything at any cost - even things like Dance Moms and other non-TV egregiousness. So many people in TV shows take massive blows to the head and just kinda "black out" for a few hours and wake up later, when in reality, it causes brain damage or death rather quickly.

And Sir Brian, you speak words of wisdom.
