Teutonic shield.
« on: 2012-05-16, 02:54:44 »
Here's my Teutonic heater shield. It's appropriate for most of the 13th century and early 14th century. This I made from two pieces of 1/4 inch Birch plywood, pressed the wood and did most of the assembly work myself, and painted it.

Here's the facebook album. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.439297202748481.104657.100000046165415&type=1

Credit Goes to my dad, Eric Pritchard (helped with the shield press), Sir james and milady Rachel.  :)

(You will have to excuse my lack of full kit in the pictures, as I simply had no time for a full armour up)

Fantastic work! It looks great even with the soft-kit. Well done.

If you want to build up the arm muscles, maybe what you need is a 5 lb hand-weight, and walk around with your arm extended out in front of you at all times. :)

You've done an excellent job...looks like you have the placement of the guige strap perfectly.  I hope you won't mind, I've saved a copy of the way you did it so I can send it to my shieldmakers.  For some odd reason, they're still iffy when it comes to the strapping for a lefty like myself.  Well done, Sir!

You can always get it unstrapped and head over here and we'll fix 'em up just like Sir Nathan's. ;)

Thank you all for your fine words  :)  You know, after training with the shield, I find that my zornhau is faster. I think it may be my left arm getting used to picking up some slack.

Deal...because its a beauty, but the strapping's awkward...I'll show you at VARF, I'll bring it w/me.  Debating on whether or not to actually wear it.  I have a sword coming back that I had a custom scabbard and rig made for (new grip too) that matches, I'm kind of stoked about it, but am not sure how to...well, you'll see.  lol

I'd reccomend giving the strapping the Sir James treatment. All of my strapping turned out wonderfully, thanks to his guidance.
