The book / usb drive is so *very* drool-worthy! I tried to order a copy, and it said declined twice, yet, I received two emails saying thanks for my order. Hopefully I've only ordered one, or can figure out how to.

I have the book only version.  It's quite nice and very extensive.  The thumb drive bit is pretty darn cool though.  I just couldn't justify the extra cost for myself.

Huzzah, I got it. The bank had flagged my card as suspicious since it's my first overseas transaction. Ordered and on it's way!

Ian, I know what you mean. It was a hard pill to swallow. I sold a couple things to offset the cost, since the thumb drive was the huge draw for me. I thought it would just be a folder full of pictures, but having all the info on the piece, the museum "stock number", having it searchable, and all the photos of the item grouped together ... truly fantastic. It's almost like the "Effigies and Brasses" site, but on hyper-steroids.

I can either post and say "Limited edition .. limited quantity .. cheaper than Albions .. professional high-res digital photos .. heirloom quality .. only one of it's kind .. Wade Allen and Robert Macpherson think it's great", or I can say "You can have a look at my copy when it gets here, but then you'll have to wait weeks it to arrive from overseas". It's up to you.

Yeah, I thought it would just be a bunch of hi-res jpgs.  Had I known what it really was, I probably would have re-thought that plan!   That's one hell of a product they put together, it's really cool!

Just the book is 30 euros. The book w/software/digital photos is 199 euros. Far from cheap, but I've never seen anything like it.

Huzzah! The price is definitely hard to swallow, but looking at some of the other books that are out of print that I'd love to get my hands on and can't, I figured I'd bite the bullet and get this one before it's gone and I kick myself for not ordering one.

Think I'll go for the book.  An extra almost-$300 for a digital copy seems excessive to me.  But hey, you guys got it so if I really need to look at this or that, you wouldn't say no would ya?  lol

Of course not. But assuming I'm not confusing this with the Carlo Paggiarino set, the USB drive contains something like 7,000 photos that aren't in the book at all, as well as being completely searchable and having all the info on the piece, whereas the book has a limited set of photos and only some of the info. So the book makes a great conversation piece and something to look at, but the digital stuff is for the hardcore research and seeing inside/outside of each piece and at multiple angles, to try to make a copy as close as possible to the original. So the USB drive is the expensive part, but also the extensive part, and while expensive, should be well worth the cost.

I wonder how much data is on that thing. I'm hoping I have enough space on the fileserver to make a backup (I don't want to trust a lone storage device).

Fileserver hmmm, what does that imply concerning the copyright licensing?
– i.e. could you then make it available online as a ‘read only’ reference?

I don't think we could legally make it accessible in a public fashion. The fileserver I was referring to is just my personal storage (I don't keep data on my desktop machine, but rather on the fileserver where it has automatic backups. It's the "poor man's RAID", in that it duplicates the hard disk nightly).
