Deeds of Modern Knights
« on: 2011-10-24, 22:47:34 »
Being new to this forum, I would first like to thank Sir Edward for accepting me and my brother, Sir William for believing in me.  I would very much like to learn of the deeds of the Knights of this forum.

My thanks in helping me in my endeavor to become a female Knight and follow in the footsteps of my brother, whom I look up to as only a younger sister can.

Welcome to the forum!  If you're anything like your brother, you already possess the heart of a knight.

Welcome, sister.  You are a worthy addition to this forum and I know that you will make a worthy addition to our Order.

A little background for the brethren, my sister champions the movement against modern slavery and child trafficking.  She runs the Philadelphia chapter of the Stop Modern Slavery movement- aimed at rescuing at-risk teens and women who are caught up in the sex trade...a good number of them are immigrants who were simply pressed into service with none the wiser (except the victims themselves).  Their only job is to rescue these women; they have services setup to help them once they've been rescued, including a halfway house that she volunteers most of her free time to, that isn't given to SMS.

She'll tell you that she looks up to me, but she is the true inspiration in our family.  Most people pay lip service to this sort of thing, or donate money - but she puts in the time, the money and the dedication.  She humbles me in all that she does.  It is I who looks up to her.  I am very proud.  :)

Thank you all for your kind welcomes.  And to my brother, Sir William, you do flatter me.  I do think it is our duty to help those less fortunate, and had I not had such role models in my life, such as my brother, I may not do what I do now.

It'll be a wonder if I can get my head into my helm now lol

;)

Wolf, no kit as of yet...but I did bring her here so she could see the different styles amongst us knights as well as learn what goes with what time period.  The goal is to build a kit for her eventually.

Well, one of the easiest ways to get started is to do 12th or first half of the 13th centuries. Mail, surcoat, and a nasal/conical helm, or one of those proto-great-helms. :)

Yes, that is what I had in mind but I will defer to her own tastes...who knows, she might want to make it a little more fantastical, we haven't really had the armor conversation other than 'I want it' and 'I will see what I can find out'.  lol

Wow, you are truely a Knight at heart, at least by your deeds. I have a freind from high school who just returned from a trip to southeast Asia where he was doing the same thing. He volunteers with a group domestically that does such work and decided to travel oversees to help out there also. It's hard and sometimes dangerous work that these people do so you have my deepest respect.
