The "Albion" sword, by Albion

*drool*

Anyone else here remember the old Robin of Sherwood TV series from back in the 80's? The sword that Robin used was called "Albion", and is sort of the unofficial namesake for Albion Swords. It's also what inspired my love for disc pommels and encouraged me to save up my money all year for my first "functional" sword when I was a teen.

The fact that Albion is now making Albion is blowing my mind. I couldn't pass it up. I'll have one before the year is out. :)

That would make a wonderful wedding present for Kat...who could then use it on you first anniversary to cut the saved wedding cake.  ;D

It's a beauty. I don't know where, but I thought I saw an estimated price tag of $2,000 for it; at the intro price it seems like a steal.

There's always that Albion booth at WMAW ... where you'll be for *4* days ... can you resist the temptation for *that* long? ;)

Sir Wolf, can we keep the subjects to edged weapons, please?  I don't own a gun...yet.

Sir James, $940 is an excellent intro price on a piece that's gonna eventually retail for $2k...but that's more than I can afford atm.  Been lookin at Atrims lately.

This thread reminds me...Sir Edward, you mentioned the BBC show Robin Hood...I happened to catch four or five episodes over the weekend, I genuinely liked it.  So much so my wife had to beg me to change the channel (we watched them all in a row lol)...put me to mind of the Merlin series on BBC, had the same feel to it almost.

You don't own guns. Guns own you.

lol, not really. For some reason it just felt right to reply with one of those "in soviet russia..." type responses. :)

Did you catch the newer one or the series from the 80's (with Michael Praed and/or Jason Connery)? I never got into the newer one. The one from the 80's was pure magic.

It was the newer one...think we talked about it in another topic, how he as a recurve horseman's bow and uses a tulwar or some other curved sword (didn't get a good look at it).  I've not seen the one with Jason Connery...pure magic you say?  I'll have to check that out.

Yeah, the first two seasons (fairly short seasons) had Michael Praed as Robin Hood. He was excellent. Jason Connery was brought in for the third season (about the length of the previous two combined) after Michael Praed moved on to other acting opportunities. His portrayal was a bit different. A more quiet reserved version of the character. And they made the switch work pretty well by using two different stories of who he was and where he came from. So it really is a different Robin.

It'll feel a bit slow, after being accustomed to the pace of modern shows, so it takes a few episodes to get hooked. But it's excellent.

Ok, on the list of things to watch...eventually.  Speaking of switching actors, Andy Whitfield, the first Spartacus, passed away on Sunday, succumbing to non-Hodgkin's lymphoma after an 18 month battle.  God grant him peace.

The 'new' Spartacus is shaping up to be underwhelming, in a word.  Saw some prelim clips of him and I am so unimpressed right now...

Sir Wolf, you may be my brother but right now, you are not my friend...why suggest such...I'm dangerous enough as it is...put a gun in my hands...and everyone had better worry just a little bit.  LOL

All of this plus the Albion Sword is making me drool all the more.  ;)

Man that would be an awesome sword to either put on a wall or hang it up on the door.   :D
