Source for leather straps, buckles, and rivets?
« on: 2011-05-17, 18:26:17 »

I'm sure we've brought this up before. But I'm thinking in terms of re-strapping armor. What is a good place to get straps with buckles, and the rivets for this?

I know Slayer uses Tandy whenever possible...depends on how authentic you're looking to get- they all look good to me.

Cool, I'll take a look at those. Thanks!

Nothing big yet. Right now I have a popped rivet on one of my pauldrons that I need to replace. But I figured I should look at options should I need to fix anything more substantial. We'll be doing armored combat next week in class, and I'll be taking it out to WMAW as well this fall for a class I signed up for. And it's just making me realize it's only a matter of time before I break a strap. :)

I'll add http://www.brettunsvillage.com/leather/ to the list. I've bought a few things from them before, quick shipping and very reasonable prices.

I'm not sure. I haven't been down there yet this season. I'm thinking of dropping by there on Saturday, so I'll look.

Ok cool, let me know...if not, I'll have to explore other options, like finding a way to do it myself.  At least Allan sent me a strap...albeit the wrong end.  lol

There are at least two: Griffin's Leather who helped me out opening weekend when I broke a strap
on one of my elbow cops. There is also Brett Smith from T-Star leather I believe he calls his shop.
Both are very reasonable and great guys. I purchased my wide medieval utility belt from Brett last year and love it! :)

Sir Brian, thanks for that...so I'll be needing his services at the very start- but after the knighting ceremony, I can do without one greave for that.

Do you need the strap itself, or just need it rivited? I could probably rivit it in the parking lot if I can remember to bring a few things.

I have the strap (and buckle) - truthfully, the entire strap popped off so I'm thinking the leather under the rivet got wide.  A washer under the rivet would fix the entire thing.  That'd be superb if you could fix it right there in the pkg lot...if you can, your first ale's on me!

I forgot-- the other main reason I was asking is that I need to do the lining and strapping for my mail standard. I want to do something similar to Bill's standard, though I might not bother with the "trauma plate" for the throat. For actual fighting, I'll probably just use the bevor and not need the standard, or the bevor will be over the standard.

But I need to get the darned thing wearable. I've had it sitting here for a couple of years.
