Yeah, I didn't shrink Sir Brian enough relative to the horse.

The shadow is actually pretty close to correct since it's original to the horse photo with a person on it. Here's what I worked from:

OK, tweaked it a little. Size is better now. Also adjusted the size of the lance.

Sir Edward, I'm interested in getting on her mailing/waiting list.

diggsjj@yahoo.com

If you please, Sir.  Thanks!  I'm cool with having something new for NEXT season!  Gives me time to come up with something...

Okay lessons learned when dealing with silk fabric:

I hand washed my new surcoat the other day because I didn't see the sense in delaying the inevitable of it needing to be washed.
I used dove delicate care laundry detergent and hand washed it in COLD water only. Unfortunately the green silk was not precisely color fast and it bled a bit into the water, however I half expected that and didn’t let it soak very long so the dye bleed over onto the white silk is very nominal. That being said those of you interested in having silk in your surcoats I suggest the following pre-steps prior to making the garment:

  • Pre soak the silk fabric in COLD water only and keeping the colors separate.
  • Do not wring or twist the fabric but roll the fabric in a large towel to remove the excess water then let it hang to dry.
  • Iron the wrinkles out with of the fabric when dry using the appropriate temperature settings on the iron.

Personally I think my surcoat looks perfect now that it has a touch of the worn look about it.  ;)

Good advice, Sir Brian...unfortunately I have experience with color bleed out...or I should say, my local dry cleaners do.  They ruined one of my surcoats!

Here is a couple of pictures of my "campaign" surcoat made of just linen with embroidered heraldry.
The seamstress totally floored me that she could embroider my heraldic charges so easily and cheaply.

I intend to wear this surcoat with my bascinet and I'll wear the finer silk surcoat with my improved great
helm which will have a matching green/yellow silk mantle as well as a new crest.  ;)

Wow...I really like what she's done there.  The campaign one has almost a worn look to it...its coming together nicely, man!

I agree, the surcoat is very sexy.  You were talking about the surcoat, right?  ;)
