Military Through the Ages 2015

History Geeks,

On the weekend of March 21-22, Jamestown Settlement will be hosting the 2015 Military Through the Ages living history timeline show.  The event will feature very high quality living history encampments spanning the Roman Empire to modern reserve National Guard units.

There will be several medieval era groups there representing the armies of Charlemagne (I think John Kronberg will be with them this year again), a Viking group, La Belle (we will be doing a full Agincourt war camp this year, just outside Calais post battle in commemoration of the 600th anniversary this year), and Lord Grey's Retinue (Chuck's alma mater) doing the late 15th.  Not quite medieval but there will also be an impressive Landsknecht unit of the early Renaissance as well (Das TeufelsAlpdrĂĽcken, Fähnlein (The Devil’s Nightmare Regiment)).

So if you want to make a day-trip down to the Williamsburg area either of those days please come see us!

Man this event is going to be awesome! I really wish I would be able to make it. I have to take off the prior weekend and know I won't be able to take two weekends off in a row with the way production is ramping up at work.

This would be, Nate, the 150th Anniversary Battle of Bentonville reenactment. One of the bigger 150th events, complete with earthworks and trenches, and an 8 mile campaign march.

Man, that sounds like a great event to attend...I've been to a similar event held in MD.  Its where I met James B and discovered Chuck was a real person!  lol

Was that Marching Through Time at Merietta?

James B will be at MTA with us this year, but I still don't believe that Chuck is a flesh and blood human being.

If I hadn't met him personally and shaken his hand (and took a pic w/him and James B to commemorate) I would be of the same belief...well, that or a wayward goat.  Somehow that goat always gets in the reference. 

I also notice that the Baltimore Antique Arms show is on the same weekend.  I am lazy, if I do anything that weekend, I might try to make that as I've never been to that either. 

I am of the mind that the turnout for MTA will be pretty large, right?  Considering who will be there and all.  I wish Williamsburg were closer!

When you shook Chuck's hand did you actually feel a pulse or notice respiration?  He could be a cylon, I hadn't considered that until now.

MTA has much larger attendance than MTT (the Merrietta show).  It's got a lot of the same participants, but MTA is bigger, and is a 'judged' event so it's a bigger deal.  The Jamestown Settlement folks have competitive categories for costuming, camps, food etc that are all judged for awards at the end of the weekend.  It's kind of cool, because there's a big Pass In Review where all the units march in a massive parade that spans the whole timeline.  I kind of wish I could see it from the view of a patron.  We should have 4 fully armored impressions and a ton of yeoman archers in La Belle this year for the Agincourt War Camp.  Should be pretty cool.

He did have a strange smile...friendly, but slightly smug, like he knew something ultra secret that I didn't.  Being a Cylon in disguise would be very boss if true.  lol
