Hails from Michigan!
« on: 2012-07-13, 04:38:01 »
Like so many before me, I found this forum while searching for help with my kit! Help was indeed found, and I decided to join so that I could participate, and perhaps help others on their way to becoming great and valiants knights themselves.

I live in Michigan, and frequent the Michigan Renaissance Festival when it is in season. Additionally, I play Dagorhir, which is a full-contact, foam weapon medieval combat game.

My current kit is slowly working towards a 13th century style, although for the time being I wear much less mail than they did. I try to create as much of my it as I can, and the chain mail is no exception.

Well met, and I hope to meet and interact with you all in the future!

Shalom!

Though it is probable that I will never meet you (I'm one of 2 west coast members) it is good to have you here!

I have not been to the Michigan faire yet but hope to remedy that some year! Although I’ve never participated in a LARP I know several good folks that do and coincidentally I am friends with one of the original founders of Darkon here in the Baltimore region and a couple of years ago he started up a splinter group I think he called Dragon Claw. He keeps trying to get me out to one of their events but they are typically on Saturdays which I have to work. Oh well perhaps someday I’ll make it out to one of them.  :-\

Welcome, Sir Siegfried.  I am familiar with Dagorhir as well, although I never played.

Welcome to the forums!

You'll find we are somewhat of picture fiends. The more, the better.

We'll also gladly motivate you to spend tons of your money on anything medieval. Be careful.  8)

Oh yes, this is an acutely honed skill... spending other people's money on arms and armor. :)

Here are a few pictures of my kit from my last Dagorhir event, which was Ragnarok (the biggest national dag event). It's held at Cooper's Lake, the same campground as Pennsic, although with an attendance of about 1700 it's 1/10th the size.

My unit is anachronistic, and spans from ancient greece to the later medieval period, so I've selected my arms and crest to call back to the ancient greek "heritage" of the group. I'm shooting for a 13th century look, but full sleeve chain with mittens and chausses have yet to make it to the top of my project list. So i'm more of a Knight Errant, you could say, lightweight for traveling. A few projects that didn't get finished in time for the were elongating my hauberk to cover my thighs, and the creation of my helmet crest, which will be a white pegasus, with a gold mane and hooves.

I have a plastic pegasus model in the mail as we speak, so I'll be sure to post some updates of the project as it comes to fruition, using Sir Brian's magnetic mounting technique, naturally.
