If you use a spray, my advice is just to be careful about getting it on evenly. Since it's clear, it's hard to tell where you sprayed and where you didn't, especially since it dries pretty quickly.

Here's my heraldic heater shield. (late 13th through mid 14th cent.) This I also mde myself, with the same process as the Teutonic Heater sheild (I would be happy to explain in detail on either thread). Altogether, it's 1/2 inch Birch with thick canvas facing. This shield is wickedly fast and maneuverable.

Please do explain your process in The Workshop.  There is no such thing as too much knowledge.  (And I, for one, would like to know your process  :) ).

I can't speak for Sir Nathan, but here's how I made mine.  I'm betting the technique he used is similar.

Do it indoors, uniform sweeps with a steady hand.  I've seen what happens when one attempts to spray paint in high winds...my brother's first car; his best friend swore he could give him a new paintjob for next to nothing- set up a stall in his backyard with unanchored plastic walls.  Yea...that worked out GREAT.  lol
