Leg armor

Can you wear floating and or encased greaves over chainmail legs? Also, would sabatons be...compatable with vikingleathercraft shoes?

I wear sabs over those very same shoes.

Cased greaves would not be worn over maille because they're too form fitted.  I suppose schynbalds (front greaves only) could be, but mid 14 to late 14th century, maille legs are not really being done anymore.  Cased greaves are the majority by the 1350's.

This is a great reference to know what's appropriate for certain decades through the 14th and early 15th century.

yup what ian said. the mail leg starts to disappear and mail tends to stay on the body and then just cover the soft bits that plate can't.

gutter greaves have been shown over mail legs for a short while but then the mail is completely gone from the legs as cased greaves move into the picture

It would be redundant for cased greaves. If you're doing the floating / schynbald greaves, I'd suggest trimming off the front of the legs and putting laces there. You can tighten the mail legs that way, and the greaves will cover the laces without the extra weight of the mail on the front of the legs. For cased greaves, chop the mail legs at slightly below the top of the greaves.

Sabatons are almost completely dependent on the footwear that they go over. So if they're built for those shoes, no problem. If they're built for modern shoes with wide soles, they won't work as well ... they'll still "work" in that they can go over top of it, but they'll be floppy, shift around, and probably won't be comfortable either.

He's got fully integrated everything, basically. I wish he would finish that kit. I drool over the black & gold themed armor (except for the FMJ armor...)
