My newly tailored maille
« on: 2011-08-17, 12:51:58 »
I know alot of you have seen my album on Facebook, but a good many here cannot access Facebook.
Here are pictures of my maille, after tailoring. I tapered the arms and added a horseman's slit.

Nicely done, Nathan.  Did you use riveted or butted links to bring them in?  How long did it take you?  I like where you've placed the closing rings, on the inside of the arm where you're not really likely to see them.   I see Katie still loves you, too.  Well done, brother!  ;)

Thank you Sir William!
I used butted links on the seam. Altogether, it probably took 6-7 hours, maybe 8.
And that's actually from a little get together my sister had. Lol, most novelty use of rumor fuel ever.....  ::)

And yes, I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I really like the look of it.  That is exactly what I need to do with mine.  Sigh.  Not likely to happen...no time, tools or rings.  lol

Thanks, Sir Edward.
And the tools I used were Long nosed pliers, wire cutters, and some normal pliers. The links were some I had lying around from other projects, like my cheater chausses.

Nicely tailored! :)

How well do your arms bend inward (across your chest)?  Is there any restriction?

Oooh, a hauberk! I was expecting voiders. Very cool. What type/size rings?

Edit: Gah. I thought for half a second and remembered "bingo wings". I have no clue why I was expecting voiders, unless it was because I just looked at mine 15 minutes ago.

LMAO...those Bingo Wings shall haunt us forevermore...I am considering ridding myself of the sleeves from my hauberk entirely.  Just an idea for something later on.  I think the sleeves could function as cheater chausses I do.  lol

Haha, Sir Nathan Quarantillo, knight of the feared Bingo Wing!  ;D

Thank you Sir Brian!
Lord Rodney, I have not tested it, but I didn't notice anything felt restrictive.

Yes, Sir James, I was going for the big one  8)

And I say instead of tiking the sleeves off entirely, remove them at about half the forearm. Wear a vambrace underneath, and you have a nice early-mid 14th century look going (in period the style I described had the remaining sleeve quite loose, almost wing-like)

Don't want the BINGO WINGS Nathan...why o why do you keep trying to get me to keep them?  I'll not flap them about on command I can assure you, Sir.  ;)

Hahaha.....No particular reason......   ;D ;D ;D

So now I'm guessing it's going to be an order tradition to get everyone with maille Bingo Wings to flap?
Great idea Sir William!

Now I really need to get my hauberk tailored; I will not be known as the Bingo Wing Knight!  LOL
