The Cthulhu mythos...y'know, it took me the better part of a year to work through one of Lovecraft's anthologies...it was a collection of short stories, freaked me out to the point where I'd read one and put it down for a while.  A long while.

Lovecraft was an expert at manipulating your imagination. So much of the creepy-factor comes from what he hints at, rather than explaining directly. I'd love to see some movies done on this. Supposedly one just got canceled because the studio wanted the movie to be PG-13, so the director walked.

I find that with subject matter such as what Lovecraft and Stephen King put out, it really depends on who's telling the story.  King is so intricate that most of what I've seen is really lost in translation, or poorly realized.

With technology as it is today, I think a lot of what we've previously read can finally be realized...in fact, I'm quite certain that Samayel's final form in Hellboy can be traced directly to representations of Cthulhu himself...either way, I can't say for sure that I'd watch a Lovecraft movie.  His short stories were disturbing enough!

Yea, mine too...she wouldn't touch Lovecraft for anything.  She loves gore, but not the unknown...that truly frightens her.

Oddly enough I have managed to move through 3 decades without reading a single lovecraftian work.  I know the references though as they keep poping up all throughout pop culture; especially cartoons for some reason. I suspect that little kids and teens would no longer be impressed with Lovecraft in a movie unless it was extremely well done.

If it were done extremely well, it'd spook just about anyone.  All of these popcorn thrillers like Paranormal Activities and their ilk are basically rooting around in Lovecraft's neck of the woods and not doing a good job of it either.  lol
