Robin Hood Sword on sale - $145

This is the cheapest I've seen it...anyone have any practical experience with this sword?

I haven't handled it, but I'd guess that the construction is typical for a Windlass piece. My overall impression of them is that you get what you pay for, but they're OK for the price. I just wouldn't use it for cutting practice. :)

Really?  Why not?  Of the Windlasses I've handled, they were able cutters- but I did hate the screw-on pommel construction of the earlier models.  Perhaps their one real downfall.  This one's supposed to be peened though, unless I'm mistaken.

Well they're probably OK for cutting, but I think it's more of a case-by-case basis. Not all of their pieces have been solidly built. Whereas when you buy an Albion, you know it's going to hold up. :)

It better, at nearly ten times the price!  I haven't bought a Windlass in quite some time...think I've graduated to finer pieces but you know, every now and again they have something that I think I want.  I'm pretty good at talking myself out of that sort of thing.  Usually.

Yeah you'll have to forgive me, I've become a total Ablion and A&A snob. In a way I miss the days when I'd get excited flipping through the Museum Replicas catalog and drooling over all the swords. Windlass doesn't excite me anymore, but I still try to be fair in assessing them. :)

Me too!  Of course that's back when they were still Del Tins and I'd never even heard of Albion.

It wasn't that long ago for me. :) I've only been buying Albions for about 3 years I think. It was like flipping a switch in my brain. Since then I've bought one from Cold Steel, and one or two Hanwei pieces, and not much else. I have the same reservations about those as I do with Windlass, so I'm not singling them out.

I remember back when I looked at MRL stuff and thought is was the best thing ever as well. Now that I've actually seen other stuff (mainly GDFB) I look back and think MAN how did I like such cheap historically inaccurate stuff. Was fun while it lasted though.

Funny part is my dream outfit is still kinda the same. I just switched the Braveheart COP for a Visby COP and prefer darker colors as opposed to earthly tones.

I can't see KoA is it cheaper there?  Not that it matters...I'm not getting it, just thought I'd pass it along.  Sir Edward, I wish I could say I can't see what you mean but after I bought my first (and currently only) Albion, the differences were glaring.  And you'd think one were indulging a little hyperbole but having held this really awesome sword in hand (something I do each and every day, can't be helped) I can honestly say that the Windlass swords are so far behind Albions in just about any category a sword gets judged.  It just is.  I haven't acquired any A&A pieces but they are on the list, just under the Lundemo piece which I'm going to have commissioned one of these days.

Even though I know I'll not be happy with a lower end sword, I still like looking at them.
