Well, maybe not accustomed to, more like inured, maybe?  I mean, from my readings, women were nearly as bad as men when it came to personal hygiene, with the exception of bathing after their menses.  I'm not sure where I read that, though.  I seem to remember reading a reference about a particular Spanish queen who boasted of having bathed only twice in her life- once for baptism and once for her marriage.

I know I'll never find it but I'll look.  lol
