The one I got from KoA is this one:  http://www.kultofathena.com/product~item~801206~name~Medieval+Kite+Shield.htm (20"x32" according to the website)

My enormous aluminum shield is 23" wide (straight) or 27" wide (around the curve), and is almost a full 36" tall. The sides are vertical for the first 13." from the top, before starting to curve towards the point.

I got mine from the same place, but went the cheaper route with this one.

Sir Ed's is far more durable and the straps are better secured to the shield as well as being
of higher quality...hence the price difference I imagine!  ;)

btw Sir Ed…The final coat of black was put on your shield and it looks gorgeous! He only has
to paint the blue and white fields and it should be done. Hope you have those stencils ready!

kewl.  i am trying to make mine.  I've already got the wood read to go (curved)  I just now need to decide the size and how to get the heater shape to lay out correctly.  You guys wouldn't be so kind as to give me a lil more measurements would ya? hehehe.  like say every 6 or so inches down from the top it is this wide etc so I can get a decent shape? please please? hehehe

Excellent! Can't wait to see it. :) Nope, haven't even started on those stencils! I need to get off my butt and start designing them.

Well, once I get mine back I can give you some measurements more precisely. The aluminum one is probably not the one you want to copy since it's so freakin huge.

so i went with a flat topped kite. like the dad of the heater ;)  I'll make a more suitable 1250s+ heater later i think. always good to have another shield.  whatya think? who wants to paint it? hehehe. i'm not good at heraldry.  might need to find a nice Richard the lion heart stincal or something.

Looks great! Yeah, you can find stencils out there for a lot of it, especially if you're not trying to do something really specific (like me). :)

Great shield!

Here is a link to the place where I got my griffin stencil. He's in the UK and with shipping
it was a little pricey but oh so worth it! They are some really great stencils.
