Yeah, I remmber that hat. He comes up as best dressed a lot. Some HEMA folks have grabbed that pic and said "see we should dress like THIS, andd not like the SCA" only to be told the truth.

Well, I always took such commentary to mean "in the spirit of", as in, this guy went the extra mile to really spruce up his kit.  The mask really does look super cool, even if it isn't historical in application.  He competes in SCA cut and thrust in that gear, correct Thorsteinn?
