Just in Bike Accident. BOLO for Bikers.
« on: 2015-04-05, 05:36:48 »
Just got through a low speed motorcycle accident. I think I'm OK, I think the bikes OK, but we'll keep an eye out.

Going down Sierra between 3rd and Commercial with sedans on either side of me, a white Mercedes on my left changed lanes into me suddenly without a signal. I locked up the brakes and dumped the bike on it's right side (I think on purpose). Helmet worked. Some passer's by said I looked OK, and a passing  REMSA ambulance I flagged down said I wasn't showing signs of concussion (apparently asking if you have one is a helpful sign you may not).

Helmet worked, Jacket worked, but my head is killing me. Best part: The fucker never even slowed down.

There are 2 types of bikers. Those who've gone down, and those that haven't gone down yet. Ow.

Glad you're OK!  We dealt with sailors wrecking bikes alot and I'd say a good 75%+ of those accidents were like you just described, some unaware idiot in a car who never knew they were there. Some drivers just have no SA.

I was in a bad place as a biker, but I was only between them for 2 seconds, and deciding to leave forwards or back when it happened.

If that car was a local he has no real excuse as we have a bike rally 2 times a year here. Worst part is we're going to have to eat all the damages if it's broken &  under $500 as that's where the deductible is (this is a hit & run). That may not be too hard to do as we're already out $300 from the windscreen & helmet.

Glad you are alive!  To bad about the helmet. Was it your sprangenhelm? ;)

I wish! It might have been more comfy AND I could use it again.

Here's a pic of my HJC full face helm after the accident. Looks like it was barely hit (even on the inside), even the paramedics thought it was OK. My head told me otherwise. Too bad it's a one use item. It's OK I bought it in '08 & needed to replace it soon as they get old.

Maybe I can put a melon inside & hit the sucker with either my SCA sword a spear, or an axe.
