Update:

Okay these gauntlets are a very pleasant surprise!  :)

They fit my bear paws very well and they offer great mobility. I did some practice Meisterhau, especially the Scheitelhau and the cuff did not impede my action in the least. These are good for both harnischfechten and blossfechten but I'll use them for harnischfechten since there is no padding whatsoever. After I finish my new gauntlets for blossfechten, I'll change out the suede inserts with the deerskin ones from my old franken-gaunts.

These are a sweet deal Sir Patrick! I'd get a pair while they are in stock for this great price.
I give them two thumbs up! ;)

Order placed!   :)

Thanks for the review and for volunteering to be a Guinea pig!

I concur with Sir Brian’s assessment.  My gauntlets arrived yesterday and I too was pleasantly surprised with the quality, particularly considering the price!

I was able to handle both my poleaxe and Hanwei/Tinker blunt longsword with ease and fluidity.  I didn’t experience binding or pinching.  Time will tell how they hold up in the long run, but for only $120 it’s hard to go wrong with these gauntlets.

I see no way to make them legal for SCA rattan “heavy” combat.  However, they could be made legal for SCA cut & thrust longsword combat by re-gloving with a little padding.

I showed them to our health and safety director at work and suggested they become standard PPE.  While he seemed impressed, I doubt that H&S will be covering the cost any time soon.   ;)

If the leather is half rotten like those gauntlets I bought from SPQR then they will need a bit more work.

Not to derail the thread but Brian, I can tell you how that happened. That would be the same SPQR that pirated four of my pieces and probably other peoples via deconstructing pieces I made and cheaping out on the repro's ( they actually used the pieces I made for the pics on their site ). I've heard from a couple of former clients in Sweden that they are known for this.

Thread back on track.

Yeah I remember you posting on FB about some shoddy knock-off companies stealing your designs! I truly regret even dealing with those thieves so I have been and will continue to steer people away from them whenever I'm asked about my Franken-Gaunts. I'll usually point people looking for armor towards you! ;)
