Illuminated Medieval Manuscripts
« on: 2014-07-16, 02:37:32 »
Staring at the images on websites like Manuscript Miniatures for hours on end doing research is a wonderful modern resource, but it really separates you from the craftsmanship, skill, artistry, and sheer beauty that goes in to actually making a medieval illuminated manuscript.  I was fumbling around on the Getty Museum's website tonight and came across this great mini documentary that outlines the process.  It's quite fascinating and gives you a much better appreciation for medieval illuminations.

Awesome! Yeah, I've always found this process to be beautiful and amazing.

I have this scheduled to post to the Order's FB page today.

Huh, I always wondered what they did if they made a mistake.

Very cool little documentary!
Per pale azure and argent, an eagle displayed per pale argent and sable, armed and langued or.

So a Norman, a Saxon, and a Viking walk into England....
