they have been saying frederick for years now. who knows......

That'd be nuts!  That's like...far from me!  lol  Altho, all kidding aside, there's a lot of wide open spaces up in Frederick and points north and east.

Sir Brian ;) - you been thinking about that lone tower out there too, huh?  My lady wife has already given her consent should we ever win- we're buying it and turning it into a compound.  Use w/e existing buildings we can, scrap the rest and build up.  The whole nine yards- including an Order Meadhall set back in the woods...you'd have to take one of the horses to get to it.  Not the black one.  He bites.

Sir James...I was going to say "but its so far" - how funny would that sound to a man who has driven cross country to attend an event?  So, I'll just say- good luck, my Brother.  :)

Why cant you guys invest money for an order of the Marshall club In northern Maryland or something. Heck why not p.a. Plenty of woods!

Hey great idea! We'll just use some of our "unlimited" income and make that happen!  ;)

I sure hope they don't move, the lay out at MDRF is so perfect! Though I get why they would want to. I sure hope they don't become like the PARF.

Heh, then you should see the Pittsburgh RenFest. As much as I enjoy my "home fest," PARF blows Pittsburgh out of the water then sets fire to the flotsam. ;)

Yeah, they each have their pros and cons. Pittsburgh faire is small, but has some nice charm. I like that part of it is wooded. PARF is huge (though of course not as huge as MDRF), has lots of great acts, etc. But it also suffers from having very little shade, and lots of modern pavement.

Mdrf has a lot of hills. One really steep one by the kids area.
Parf has hills but but it just feels too, corny. I guess it's too Shakespeare. For me.

Aha! There are two "PARF" faires. I was talking with Nate and Aiden's mom about the PA Renn Fest, having never been myself, but seeing pics that it was mostly tents in a field similar to VARF, and she was describing one with permanent structures and modern pavement. This makes a lot more sense now.

Don't get me wrong, i'll bleed for my PARF in a battle. Admitting I'm like an hour away being in the Ambler/Fort Washington area. Like Sir Edward said there is a lack of shade and a lot of pavement. PARF is larger by-the-way. I just like the less pirate influence at the MDRF too(even though the pirate ship at PARF is hilarious). PARF definitely has great shows and turkey legs. Douglas we must meet sometime at our home grounds. The joust gets a bit too corny especially when the villain yells "I FIGHT FOR EVIL!!(ps its obvious im not going to win)" unlike at MDRF the show isn't planned. I was talking to Sir Barchan of Dingleberry? Anyway, he told me it was actual jousting and was not planned. It kills me when I am watching the show and someone asks me "are you going to joust?" And I respond "if I want a lance through me, yes" because I am wearing maille not plate.

I sure hope they don't move, the lay out at MDRF is so perfect! Though I get why they would want to. I sure hope they don't become like the PARF.

Are you sure? There is a grassy field at the PA renn faire. There is also a section with many tents where the civil war men camp out. No, it is the same fair. Our fair also has a mini camp ground in the very back. The fair grounds are VERY large, bigger than MD renn faire.

Both the Pittsburgh Festival and PARF have permanent structures. PARF is larger and paved and has a lot more "fancy" buildings. That's on the eastern end of PA, near Lancaster. Pittsburgh is a lot smaller and is not paved, but a good chunk of it is nestled in the woods, which is really neat. That one's on the western end of PA near, of course, Pittsburgh. I'm about an hour or so away from it, so it's easy to make a day out of it without having to worry about traveling and motels and such.

Aiden, I'm planning on hitting PARF on the second weekend, I believe, and...another weekend that I can't remember off-hand. :P Maybe we'll be able to meet up this year. :)

Well that would be cool, however not to throw a monkey wrench into your plans but we are looking into trying to make an appearance at the last day of the Great Lakes Medieval Faire (GLMF) in Geneva, Ohio for a Longsword Demonstration. Even though that faire starts in five months they are accepting applications for the next few weeks and it might be a good opportunity for us to gain more publicity within the renfair circuit since it will be the largest faire we would be doing to date (site is 13 acres with attendance as of 2007 at 45,000).  ;)

I'll have to double-check my dates, but I'm going to assume that the last weekend of Great Lakes conflicts with the second weekend of PARF, right? Just my luck...lol :P

You say Western Douglas? Im on the Eastern side near Philly. We go to 2 different fairs :( Ohio you say? Haha DC to me was expensive. I don't think I'm gonna attend that one.

The one close to me is the Pittsburgh Festival. The one closer to you is PARF, and I go to that one, too. :) It's confusing because they're both technically festivals in PA, but only one is actually called the "Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire."

Football?
...Ah yes, that's the sport I would be more impressed with if they wore steel armor and had poleaxes! ;)
