Sallet padding....

This is for anyone who can pass a link, but  ???probably more so to Bill who has sallet
experience..I'm looking to pad a sallet with a closing visor and bevoir. I want to get away
from the closed cell foam of SCAdian days, but also need to be able to strap said helmet
considering the closeness of the bev. Any ideas or info anyone?

Stay far away from blue foam! Not only does it look attrocious, it doesn't breath so it is much hotter than necessary.

That link was one of my references when I made the liners for my two helms. 

Remember that velcro is your friend when it comes time to attaching the liner to the helm,
which will make it easier to wash the liner when you need to.

Velcro may end up being easier than installing it in an historical manner. It the helmet has a row of rivets twords the outside edge of the helmet these are simulating the rivets that whould hold the liner thats not there. They would need to be removed to install the liner properly. If the helmet is of the type where the visor is a large plate the covers the bottom ( jaw ) at top of the helmet ( the top portion acting as a brow re-enforce) then you would need to drill a series of holes ( the holes would be present on originals but won't be on yours I suspect) along the brow of the helmet bowl at the brow to allow the continuation of the attachmemnt of the liner along the brow line. These holes would need to counter sunk so that the rivets here could be flush riveted with the surface of the helmet bowl so as not to interefer with the visor sitting in the right position when down. If the helmet has a seperate plate riveted at the brow as a re-enforce then the rivets that hole it in place would need to be removed as well since those rivets will also secure the liner in place ( in other words when putting the brow re-enforce back on you'd be instaling the line at the same time using the shared rivets). All of this adds up to - yeah velcro isnt historic but will be a hell of alot easier and less time consuming for you to do.
