Ugh, I must be crazy (Mass Effect N7 armor cosplay)

<< < (11/15) > >>

Sir Edward:
It's mostly comfortable, except for heating up real quick. The foam is very insulating. But it's super light. I expect the whole thing probably weighs less than 5 pounds, but I haven't weighed it. It's easy to forget some of the pieces are on. When working on parts, I sometimes forgot to take off the rerebrace or greave I was test-fitting a few minutes earlier, and kept it on for like 30 minutes.

It restricts movement a little, but not too badly. Mainly I won't be able to sit because the cuisses stick straight into the hip. Also, the breastplate is just wide enough that it interferes with bringing my arms together out in front, but I can still do it since the whole thing flexes.

It's all held together with hot-glue. No leaving it in a hot car. But I can't do that anyway since I used a heat-gun to put curvature into the foam, and when re-heated it wants to lose the curve. Some parts hold the curve better when it's more than one layer, and they're glued together while curved.

It's not the most durable stuff, but it shouldn't pull apart either. Most of the straps have some elastic in them so that it can stretch a little without ripping out from the foam.

So far I've used something like 8 yards of nylon strap, 5 or 6 yards of elastic, and 10 or 12 feet of velcro.

After taking those photos last night, I made the knees and added stripes into the greaves. You can see it in the upper one in this photo:

Sir William:
I'm impressed...that's very good looking, Sir Edward.

Sir Edward:
Well, I started this crazy project weeks ago, and all along my plan was to finish tonight, so I wouldn't be pushing it right to the last minute. Well, I got it together tonight. :)

Feeling pretty bad-ass here. :)

Clicky pictures...

Lord Dane:
