Good inspirational movies
« on: 2013-05-09, 00:19:43 »
In relation to the epic thread started by Sir William
http://modernchivalry.org/forum/index.php/topic,756.0.html on good music to get us in the mood, what movies do you all enjoy watching when working on your kit?  For example, the movies that we can just listen to, and literally play the movie in our heads while working.

I'll start:

Knight's Tale is great because of the classic rock which always amps me up, and the story is just so enjoyable.
Kingdom of Heaven, with all the "almost period, what's a century between friends!?" style, definitely keeps me motivated to work on my mail.

I put it here since the "mood music" was in here.  If it needs to be put in the library, I'm sure Sir Edward will say so.  Any additions though?

I don't think that there's a soundtrack in any of the aforementioned movies that I do not like- I haven't seen the Taylor version of Ivanhoe yet, but given the consensus, I'll probably like it.  I really dug KoH's though...I don't know if it was by the books period or not, but I do know that it set the tone rather well.

Sylvanus...that's a great line, isn't it?  You could almost feel the tension ratchet up until the young cavalier grasped his hand; I figured it was either that, or lose his head, eh?

Sir William,

as you have already said, the historical facts may be off, but KOH is definitely one of my all-time favorites.  I haven't seen Ivanhoe yet, and I've only seen about ten minutes of Arn but I know it's going to be one of my favorites as well, I was able to listen to the "Arn Suite" on youtube, beautiful soundtrack.

Sir Brian, two of the images you posted didn't show up.  Any chance of trying again?  I'm really wanting to get into the classics too.

Sir Edward, definitely Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail!  I just wanted to save that one for one of you guys since I am at the moment not an esteemed "knight of NI!" and I also don't own it yet.  My lady owns it, but her parents have apparently "misteriously lost it" as they claim!  :o

basically, I'm going to be doing a lot of mail and anything to help is always a good thing.  I still want to say thanks to Sir William to starting the "Mood Music" thread and Sir Edward for posting Two Steps From Hell.  I'm obsessed with the "Archangel" album now! 8)

Rome, GoT, Forbidden Kingdom, Redbelt, or Merlin

Though I rarely put on something theme based when working on my kit. IE I watched Defiance while sewing on my SCA dane axe.

While it's not medieval, I like to watch The Last Samurai, as it deals with honor, integrity, philosophy, doing the right thing - and has some pretty epic scenes in it too.

I saw this movie recently:

It doesn't have the production values of say, KoH or Arn, but it was still entertaining to watch, and I believe it is set in 15/16th C Scotland.  Worth a watch, I'd say.  An interesting tidbit, I recognized some Windlass products.

I saw it too, not bad, as you said, it's not KoH or Arn or Knight's Tale level, but it's on Netflix. The rope duel was interesting too.

My lady just added these to our repertoire:

and another Nick Cage movie that you forget is Nick Cage:

"No one knows how much time they have to be with the people that are the most important"
the two year old loved the Tesla Coil scene with the music! ;D

- and I know this may be perceived as heresy within this group, but I'm more a fan of Mel Brooks than Monty Python lol  :-[ :-\ ;D
